How to use Add text to an image
Add your file
Drop your image file onto the upload area, or tap the area to choose it from your device.
Set the options
Choose + Add text Delete Box 1 of 1, Font, Size, Colour, Bold and Italic. Every setting is on screen before you add a file, so you can see what the tool will do before it runs.
Run it and save
Press Download, Don →. The button stays disabled until there is something to work on, and each file shows its own progress and result. Press Download, Don →. Each finished file keeps a name based on the one you started with, so you can tell the versions apart.
What this tool does
Drag to position the text anywhere
Grab the caption and move it, with your finger on a phone or the mouse on a desktop. Each box keeps its position when you change the font, colour or size.
Fonts, size, colour, bold and italic
Pick Impact, Bricolage, Space Grotesk, Arial or Georgia, set the size and colour, and turn bold or italic on. Impact is there because it is what meme captions use.
Outline, shadow, opacity and a text box
An outline and a drop shadow keep the words readable over a busy photo, and a solid text box behind them handles the cases where neither is enough.
Multi-line text
Press Add text for as many separate boxes as you need, and use returns inside one box for several lines. Each box aligns left, centre or right on its own.
Export PNG or JPEG, nothing uploaded
Save as PNG to keep transparency or JPEG for a smaller file. The photo is read, drawn and saved by your browser, so it never leaves your device.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded when I add text?
No. The text is drawn onto your image entirely in your browser on your device, so nothing is uploaded and it works offline.
How do I position the text?
Tap or drag anywhere on the image to move the text there. You can set the font, size, colour, outline, shadow, opacity, alignment and an optional background box.
Can I add more than one text box or line?
Yes. Use Add text to place as many separate text boxes as you like, each with its own wording, font and colour, and drag each one independently. Press Enter inside a box for a new line. To remove a box, tap it and press Delete.
Will the quality stay the same?
Yes. The text is drawn at your image's full resolution, so the download is the same size and quality as the original, plus your text. PNG keeps transparency, JPEG flattens onto white.
Can I use this for memes or watermarks?
Definitely. Use the Impact font with a bold outline for classic meme text, or low opacity with your name for a simple watermark.
