Frequently asked questions
How many images can I do at once, and will it slow my device?
You can add up to 30 images at a time. Background removal runs a real AI model inside your browser, so it uses your device's processor or graphics card and memory. A modern laptop or phone handles single images quickly; large batches or very large images use more memory and take longer, especially without a graphics card. If your device struggles, do fewer images at a time.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens inside your browser. Your images never leave your device and are never sent to a server, which is why it stays completely private and free.
Is it as good as remove.bg?
It uses a current state-of-the-art open AI model and gets very close on most photos of people, products, animals and objects. Paid services like remove.bg add extra server-side edge refinement, so on very fine details such as wispy hair or fur the result may differ. For most everyday images the quality is excellent.
Why does it download something the first time?
The AI model runs on your device, so it is downloaded once (roughly 45 to 170 MB depending on the quality you pick) and then cached by your browser. After that, removals are fast and work even offline until you clear your browser data.
Why is it faster on some devices, and what is the engine setting?
By default it runs on your processor (CPU), which works on every device. You can switch the Engine setting to GPU for much faster processing if your graphics card supports it, but some graphics cards cannot run this model and will automatically fall back to the processor. The badge shows which mode is active.
Can I put a solid colour behind the subject?
Yes. By default you get a transparent PNG, but you can choose a white, black or custom colour background. The download is always a PNG so transparency is preserved when you pick transparent.
