Frequently asked questions
Are these the official 2026 Poya dates?
Yes. They follow the Sri Lanka Government Gazette for 2026 and were approved by the Poya Committee. Poya days are public and bank holidays.
Why is there an Adhi Poson Poya in 2026?
2026 has an extra lunar month (an adhi or adhika month), which adds an additional Poson Full Moon Poya day. That is why both Adhi Poson and Poson appear.
When is the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in 2026?
The New Year (Avurudu) falls on Tuesday 14 April 2026, with Monday 13 April also a holiday as the day before. The exact auspicious times are announced each year in the litha.
