Background Noise Remover reduces steady background noise such as hiss, hum and fan noise on voice recordings entirely in your browser, with nothing uploaded. It removes low rumble and lowers the background during pauses, lets you compare before and after, and downloads the cleaned audio as a WAV.

Files are processed in your browser and never uploaded.

How to use Remove background noise

  1. Add your file

Drop your audio file onto the upload area, or tap the area to choose it from your device.

  2. Run it

Press Reduce noise, Don →. The button stays disabled until there is something to work on, and each file shows its own progress and result.

  3. Save the result

Press Quick · RNNoise · no download. Each finished file keeps a name based on the one you started with, so you can tell the versions apart.

What this tool does

Reduces steady hiss, hum and background noise

Steady noise like hiss, air conditioning hum and street rumble is reduced while the voice is left alone, with Light, Medium and Strong settings.

Removes low rumble

Remove rumble cuts everything below 80, 100 or 150 Hz, which is where handling noise and passing traffic live.

Before and after preview

Play the original and the cleaned version back to back before downloading, because noise reduction is a judgement rather than a setting.

Downloads a clean WAV

The result downloads as a WAV, so nothing is compressed again on the way out.

Runs in your browser, nothing uploaded

MP3, WAV, M4A and OGG are all decoded and processed in your browser, so the recording is never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Is my audio uploaded?

No. The audio is decoded and cleaned entirely in your browser on your device, so nothing is uploaded and it works offline.

What kind of noise does it remove?

Steady background noise such as hiss, mains hum, fans and air conditioning on voice recordings. It removes low rumble and lowers the background during quiet gaps so speech stands out more.

What it cannot do

It is not a magic filter for loud, sudden or changing noise, background music, or several voices at once. For those, results will be limited.

Which formats can I use?

Any audio your browser can open, including MP3, WAV, M4A and OGG. The cleaned file is saved as a WAV, which is lossless and plays everywhere.

How do I get the best result?

Start on Medium and compare with the original using the two players. Use Light if speech starts to sound processed, or Strong for noisier recordings. Keep Remove rumble on for hum and low background.

What are the two engines?

The Quick engine uses RNNoise, a small neural network built for voice, and runs instantly on your device with no download. The ffmpeg engine uses spectral denoising and downloads a built-in engine (about 31 MB) the first time. Quick is the best choice for most voice recordings.
