Ready when you are
Private by design: your microphone audio is recorded and saved entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded. Recording starts only after you allow microphone access. Long recordings are kept in memory until you save them.
Voice Recorder is a free tool that records audio from your microphone entirely in your browser, with nothing uploaded. It shows a live waveform and timer, lets you pause and resume, and when you stop you can play the recording back and save it as the original file, or convert it to MP3 or WAV on your device. Most browsers record using the Opus codec in a WebM or OGG file, while Safari records M4A. Recording only begins after you grant microphone permission.

Frequently asked questions

Is my microphone audio sent anywhere?

No. The recording is captured and saved entirely on your device inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded to any server, and the audio never leaves your computer or phone.

Why does it ask for microphone permission?

Your browser needs your permission to use the microphone. Recording only starts after you allow it, and you can stop and revoke access at any time. The audio is only ever used to make your recording on your device.

What format is my recording?

Most browsers record as WebM or OGG using the Opus codec, and Safari records as M4A. You can keep that original file, or convert your recording to MP3 or WAV before downloading, all on your device.

Can I pause and continue a recording?

Yes. Use the pause button to stop temporarily and resume to continue the same recording. When you are finished, press stop to get one file.

Is there a time limit?

There is no fixed limit, but long recordings use more memory because the whole recording is kept on your device until you save it. Very long sessions may slow down on a phone or older machine.

Why is there no sound or recording on my iPhone?

On iOS, recording must start from a tap, which is why you press the record button to begin. Make sure the browser has microphone permission in Settings, and that your device is not muted for recording.
