Frequently asked questions
Is my audio uploaded anywhere?
No. The audio is loaded and processed entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and the file you export is created on your own device.
Does changing the speed change the pitch?
In the player, no. The player keeps the pitch natural while it speeds up or slows down, which is ideal for listening to speech or lectures. You can turn that off with the checkbox if you want the chipmunk or slow-tape effect.
Why does the exported file change pitch?
Exporting a sped-up file with the pitch perfectly preserved needs heavy time-stretching that is not reliable in a browser, so the export speeds the audio like a tape, which also shifts the pitch. For natural-pitch listening, use the player rather than the export.
What speeds can I use?
Anything from a quarter speed up to four times, with quick presets at 0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.25, 1.5 and 2 times. Slower is useful for transcribing or learning music, faster for getting through talks quickly.
What file types work?
Common audio files such as MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG and others your browser can decode. The export is always a WAV file, which is uncompressed and widely supported.
