Frequently asked questions
How many videos can I mute, and will my device handle it?
You can add up to 100 videos at once. Muting is light because the video is copied rather than re-encoded, but everything runs on your device and each finished file is held in memory, so a large batch of big files can still slow down or crash the tab. On a phone or an older machine, do a smaller batch at a time.
Are my videos uploaded anywhere?
No. The audio is stripped out inside your browser on your device, and the videos are never sent to a server.
Does muting reduce the video quality?
No. The picture is copied across untouched (no re-encoding), so the video stays exactly the same quality and the file is just a little smaller without the audio. It is also very fast for the same reason.
What formats can I mute?
Most common video files including MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV. The muted file keeps the same format as the original, so an MP4 stays an MP4.
What are the two engines?
Fast mode copies the video on your device with no download. Compatible mode uses a built-in engine that handles more unusual files but downloads about 31 MB the first time and is slower. It picks automatically, and you can override the choice.
Can I download them all at once?
Yes. Each muted video has its own download button, and once more than one is done you can grab them all together in a single zip.
