Good to know: It keeps accurate time even if the tab is in the background, and beeps when it finishes (turn your sound on).
Countdown Timer is a free productivity tool that runs entirely in your browser with nothing uploaded. Set hours, minutes and seconds or pick a preset, add a label that shows in the browser tab, and it beeps and flashes when time is up, staying accurate even when the tab is in the background.

Files are processed in your browser and never uploaded.

How to use Countdown timer

  1. Enter your figures

Fill in Hours, Minutes, Seconds and Label. Values you change are used straight away, with no submit button.

  2. Read the results

The totals and the breakdown below them update as soon as a value changes.

  3. Start over any time

Nothing is saved on a server, so reloading the page clears everything.

What this tool does

Quick presets and custom durations

Presets for 1, 3, 5, 10, 15 and 25 minutes and an hour are one tap, and hours, minutes and seconds are there when you need something exact.

Accurate even in the background

The remaining time is worked out from the clock rather than counted down frame by frame, so it stays right when the tab is in the background.

Beeps and flashes when done

When it reaches zero the page beeps and flashes, so it gets your attention whether the sound is on or not.

Label shown in the tab

The label you give the timer is shown in the browser tab, so several timers in several tabs are still easy to tell apart.

Works offline, no sign-up

Once loaded it keeps running with no connection, with no account and nothing uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Does the timer keep accurate time in the background?

Yes. It tracks the real end time rather than counting ticks, so it stays accurate even if the tab is in the background or your device sleeps briefly. It needs the page to stay open to alert you.

Will it make a sound when it finishes?

Yes, it beeps repeatedly and the screen flashes. Make sure your device sound is on; on mobile you may need to interact with the page first so the browser allows audio.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The timer runs entirely in your browser with nothing uploaded, and it works offline.

Can I set a label?

Yes. Add a label such as a task name and it appears in the browser tab, so you know which timer is running.

Can I set hours, not just minutes?

Yes. Enter any combination of hours, minutes and seconds, or use a quick preset.
