How to use Business Bookkeeping
Add your file
Drop your JSON file onto the upload area, or tap the area to choose it from your device.
Set the options
Choose Period. Every setting is on screen before you add a file, so you can see what the tool will do before it runs.
Run it and save
Press Settings & Backup. The button stays disabled until there is something to work on, and each file shows its own progress and result. Press Save entry, Don →. Each finished file keeps a name based on the one you started with, so you can tell the versions apart.
What this tool does
Income and expense ledger
Every entry is income or expense with a date, category, amount, payment method and notes, and the list filters by period, type, category or a search.
Tax and VAT tracking per entry
Each entry carries its own VAT or tax percentage, so the totals separate net, tax and gross for whatever period you are reporting on.
Clients and invoices with auto-posting
Keep clients with their contact details, raise invoices against them, and have the invoice post itself into the ledger when it is paid.
Multi-currency
Amounts can be recorded in LKR, USD, EUR, GBP or INR and are totalled per currency, so a business billing in two currencies does not mix them together.
Profit and loss dashboard
The dashboard shows income, expenses, net profit and tax for the period you pick, from this month to a custom date range.
Export and import JSON backup
Export writes a JSON file with everything in it and Import restores it, which is both your backup and the way to move to another device.
Frequently asked questions
Is my business data uploaded anywhere?
No. Every entry, client and invoice stays in this browser on this device. There is no server, no account and no sync, which is also why you should export a backup regularly.
How do I back up or move my books?
Press Export to save a JSON file with everything in it, then press Import on any device to restore it. There is also a CSV export if you want the ledger in a spreadsheet or with an accountant.
Can it handle VAT or sales tax?
Yes. Each entry can carry its own tax rate and amount, and the totals separate net, tax and gross so you can see what you owe for a period.
Does it work with more than one currency?
Yes. Entries can be recorded in different currencies and are shown per currency, so a business billing in two currencies does not have to mix them together.
Is this a replacement for an accountant?
No. It is a free ledger for tracking income, expenses, clients and invoices, and for producing a clean profit and loss figure. Filing and advice are still your accountant's job.
