About
Net worth is what you own minus what you owe. Tracking it now and then shows whether you are moving in the right direction. Your data stays on this device, so export a backup to keep a copy. This is general information, not financial advice.
Files are processed in your browser and never uploaded.
How to use Net Worth Snapshot
Add your file
Drop your JSON file onto the upload area, or tap the area to choose it from your device.
Set the options
Choose Currency symbol, Item name, Assets (what you own) 2, Assets (what you own), e.g. Personal loan and Value (l val). Every setting is on screen before you add a file, so you can see what the tool will do before it runs.
Run it and save
Press Import backup. The button stays disabled until there is something to work on, and each file shows its own progress and result. Press Export backup. Each finished file keeps a name based on the one you started with, so you can tell the versions apart.
What this tool does
Assets and liabilities lists
Assets are what you own and liabilities are what you owe, each a named list you can add to and edit as things change.
Net worth total
Net worth is assets minus liabilities, shown as one figure with both totals beside it so the sum is checkable.
Breakdown chart
The breakdown chart shows what your net worth is actually made of, which is usually more useful than the total on its own.
Local save
The snapshot is saved in this browser on this device, so it is still there next time without an account.
Export and import JSON backup
Export backup writes a JSON file and Import backup restores it, so a year of snapshots is not lost with your browser data.
CSV export
CSV export gives you both lists in a form a spreadsheet can open directly.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as an asset and what counts as a liability?
Assets are what you own that has value: cash, savings, investments, property, vehicles. Liabilities are what you owe: mortgages, loans, credit card balances, overdrafts. Net worth is simply assets minus liabilities.
Can net worth be negative?
Yes, and it is common early on. A mortgage or a student loan can easily exceed savings for years. The number matters as a trend over time, not as a single snapshot.
Is my list saved if I come back later?
Yes, in this browser on this device. Nothing is uploaded. Use Export backup for a copy you can keep or move, and Import backup to restore it.
Should I include my home and its mortgage?
Include both, the home at what it would realistically sell for and the mortgage at the balance outstanding. Leaving one out makes the total misleading.
Can I track more than one currency?
Enter values in a single currency for the total to be meaningful. Convert other holdings first, and keep the same currency each time so the trend stays comparable.
