Frequently asked questions
Where do the exchange rates come from, and do I need internet?
The rates are public daily reference rates fetched from a free exchange-rate service when the page loads, so you need an internet connection for them. Your amounts are then calculated in your browser, and nothing about you or your numbers is sent anywhere.
Are these live trading rates?
No. They are indicative daily reference rates, updated about once a day. They are great for everyday estimates, travel and invoicing, but banks and money transfer services use their own rates and fees, so the amount you actually pay or receive will differ.
Which currencies are supported?
Around 160 currencies including the US dollar, euro, pound, Indian rupee and Sri Lankan rupee, with the most popular ones grouped at the top of each list.
Why might the rates fail to load?
If you are offline or the rate service is briefly unavailable, the rates cannot be fetched. Tap Refresh rates to try again once you are back online.
Can I convert between two non-dollar currencies?
Yes. You can pick any two currencies; the conversion is worked out through a common base, so pairs like pounds to rupees work directly.
