01Who this policy covers
This Privacy Policy applies to the don mobile application ("the app", "we", "our"). don is built for a single person to use on their own device. It has no user accounts and no shared spaces, so it does not collect or process information about anyone other than the person using the app.
By installing and using don, you agree to the handling of information described here.
02Information the app handles
don only works with the things you choose to give it. It does not gather information in the background.
Voice recordings
When you tap the record button and speak, the app captures audio from your microphone. This recording is sent to Google's Gemini service so your words can be transcribed and understood. By default the app does not keep the audio file after processing is complete.
Note content
The structured note created from your recording is saved on your device. This can include a title, the full details of what you said, the raw transcript, any date or time you mentioned, and any people or locations you named.
Reminder times
If your note includes a reminder, the app calculates the reminder time and schedules a local notification on your device so it can alert you later.
03How your information is used
Your information is used only to make the app work for you. Specifically, to:
- Turn your speech into a readable, organized note.
- Sort each note by type, such as meeting, event, idea, or task.
- Schedule and deliver reminders at the times you set.
- Let you view, edit, and delete your notes later.
We do not use your information to build a profile of you, to advertise to you, or for any purpose unrelated to the features described above.
04Processing by Google Gemini
don relies on Google's Gemini API to understand your voice notes. When you record a note, the audio (and the text derived from it) is transmitted to Google for processing, along with the current date, time, and time zone so that phrases like "tomorrow at 9" can be resolved correctly.
Google's handling of data sent to its services is governed by Google's own terms and privacy policy. We encourage you to review them:
Google is the only third party that receives your voice note content, and it receives it solely to return the understood, structured result back to the app.
05Where your data is stored
don is local first. Your notes and reminders are stored in a database on your own device. We do not operate a server that holds your notes, and there is no cloud backup or cross device sync in this version of the app.
Because your data lives on your device, it is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its data, and it is subject to the protections of your device, such as your screen lock and device encryption.
06What we do not collect
To be clear about what does not happen:
- No accounts, names, emails, or passwords are collected, because there is no sign up.
- No analytics or usage tracking software is included.
- No advertising identifiers are used and no ads are shown.
- No location tracking takes place. A location only appears in a note if you mention one out loud.
- No contacts, photos, or other files are accessed.
07Device permissions
The app asks for a small number of permissions, each tied directly to a feature:
- Microphone. Used to record your voice when you tap the record button. The app does not listen at any other time.
- Notifications. Used to deliver your reminders, including when the app is closed.
- Internet access. Used to send your recording to Google's Gemini service for processing.
You can review or revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings. Revoking the microphone or internet permission will prevent voice capture from working.
08Retention and deletion
Your notes and reminders stay on your device until you delete them. You are always in control:
- Delete an individual note from inside the app to remove it and cancel its reminder.
- Clearing the app's data from device settings removes all stored notes at once.
- Uninstalling the app removes all of its data from your device.
Voice recordings sent to Google are processed under Google's retention practices, described in the Gemini API terms linked above. The app itself discards the local recording after processing by default.
09Security
Data sent to Google's Gemini service is transmitted over an encrypted connection. Your notes are stored within the app's private storage area on your device, which other apps cannot read.
No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we keep the app's footprint small on purpose, holding nothing on a remote server, to reduce the ways your information could be exposed.
10Children's privacy
don is intended for general personal use and is not directed at children under the age of 13. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because there are no accounts and all data stays on the device, the app does not build profiles of any user.
11Your control
Since your data lives on your device, you have direct control over it. At any time you can view every note, edit its contents, change or cancel its reminder, or delete it entirely. There is no account to close and no remote copy of your notes to request, because none is kept.
12Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects how your information is handled, this policy will be updated and the date at the top of the page will change. Significant changes may also be highlighted within the app or its store listing. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
13Contact
If you have any questions about this policy or how don handles your information, please get in touch.
