Frequently asked questions
What is Grade 1 Braille?
Grade 1 (uncontracted) Braille is a direct letter-for-letter translation where each print character maps to one Braille cell. It is the foundation of Braille literacy and is commonly used for labelling, short texts and learning. Grade 2 uses contractions for common words and is not supported here.
How do the dot patterns work?
Each Braille cell is a 2×3 grid of six possible dots, numbered 1–6 from top-left to bottom-right. The character ⠁ raises dot 1 (top-left) only and represents the letter A. This tool uses standard Unicode Braille characters so the patterns display correctly in any Braille-capable font.
Can I copy the Braille to paste elsewhere?
Yes. Press Copy result and the Braille Unicode text is on your clipboard. You can paste it into any app that renders Unicode Braille, or send it to a Braille embosser that accepts Unicode input.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The entire translation runs in your browser using a built-in lookup table. Nothing is sent to a server.
